Meet Katie
I've always been fascinated by the relationship between people and the places they call home. Our homes hold memories, reflect our identities and change alongside us. They are much more than the spaces we inhabit.
For over twenty years, I've been designing highly personal interiors for clients in the UK and internationally. My work is rooted in understanding not just how people want their homes to look, but how they live, what matters to them and how they want to feel in their surroundings.
I grew up in a family that renovated properties, spending much of my childhood on building sites and watching spaces being transformed. Perhaps that's where my curiosity began — the idea that a home is never really finished, but continues to evolve with the people living in it.
Before establishing Katie McCrum Studio, I trained and worked as a nurse and later as a BBC broadcaster. I studied interior design at KLC School of Design, where I was awarded Creative Student of the Year, and have since spent many years teaching and mentoring emerging designers.
More recently, I qualified as a Gestalt therapist, deepening a longstanding interest in the relationship between our emotional lives and the environments we inhabit. Alongside my interest in neuroaesthetics and wellbeing, this has brought another dimension to my design practice, an awareness of how our surroundings can influence our experience of everyday life, and how our needs change over time.
I believe good design begins with listening. Sometimes that means reimagining an entire home; sometimes it means recognising that a small change can make a meaningful difference. I enjoy the creative process as much as the relationships that develop along the way, and remain personally involved in every project.
Ultimately, my work is about creating thoughtful, beautiful and individual spaces that feel genuinely connected to the people who live in them
